The Justice Emmanuel Ayoola Foundation
The Justice Emmanuel Ayoola Foundation was established in Honour of one of Nigeria’ s foremost jurist, Hon. Justice Emmanuel Olayinka Ayoola, former Justice of the Supreme Court of Nigeria and Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC). He served in various judicial capacities in and outside Nigeria and at various times, as the President of the Supreme Court of Sierra Leone, President, Seychelles Court of Appeal and Chief Justice of the Government of Gambia.
The foundation’s goal is to promote scholarship, improve the quality of legal thought and analysis both at the bar and bench. The foundation publishes a quarterly law journal the Appellate Review which features articles and short commentaries on the decisions of the appellate courts. This is an important function in the development of Nigerian Jurisprudence. Many have observed that there is little or no critical review of the decisions of the Appellate courts which leaves not only the judiciary but the entire profession little in terms of useful alternative views and reasoning.
Appellate Review provides an opportunity for practitioners, jurists and academics to critique landmark decisions of the courts and qualitatively debate law and reasoning flowing from the decisions.
